Chef’s Apprentice
“There is no substitute for hands on experience.”
Sun Mountain Lodge participates in a culinary education program, a Washington Department of Labor and Industry and American Culinary Federation sanctioned program.
This apprenticeship program offers:
- A 3 year work-as-you-learn opportunity
- The chance to earn your “Certified Culinarian” Certification (CC)
- Certified recognition by WA dept of Labor, US Dept of Labor and the American Culinary Federation
- Receive mentoring from an ACF-certified Executive Chef (CEC)
- Participate in an “earn while you learn” approach
- Develop real-world skills based on job experience
- Pursue career paths that provide long-term financial security
- Develop documented culinary skills that are transferable
- Possible housing available for a single person
Interested students should:
- Have a passion for food and cooking
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Be at least 17 years of age
- Be willing to spend 3 years working and training rigorously
- Be willing to spend time on class room and computer studies
- Spend time on field trips, food shows and competitions
- Be willing to live in a rural area
- Enjoy working in a AAA 4-Diamond Resort and Restaurant
- 3-5 years kitchen experience required
When a position is available, applicants should:

- Write a 300 word essay on why they want to be a chef
- Include a copy of your high school diploma or equivalent

- Cost for materials totals $5,000 over the three-year program. Some scholarship money may be available.

Internships
We offer internships in our culinary, bake shop, landscape and recreation areas. All 2012 Internship positions have been filled! We will begin accepting applications in January for those interested in internships between April and October of 2013.
