Golf Opportunities Near Sun Mountain Lodge

North Central Washington is a great place for golf, and Sun Mountain Lodge is close to all the action. Long, warm, sunny days make for a wonderful outing on the links and we've got it here!

Bear Creek Golf Course
Just 9 miles from Sun Mountain Lodge, the nearest course is Bear Creek Golf Course located just off the Eastside County Road southeast of Winthrop on the old Ortell cattle ranch. In 1948 Herman Court, an ex-Seattle fireman, purchased the 480-acre Ortell spread at the base of Studhorse Mountain. Court started thinking about a golf course in 1952. Actual construction began in 1965. He built 3 holes which folks played 3 times around. They purchased a punch card for $25 which was good for 25 rounds. Court started with a rough three-hole layout. By 1969 Bear Creek had developed into a regulation-length nine. Herm turned the facility over to his son, Ashley, in 1982. Ash and his wife, Linda, now oversee the operation. Compliments on the lush fairways and well-maintained greens flow freely after a round. Bear Creek features spectacular views of the North Cascade Mountains from every hole. It is a challenging nine-hole course with 18 different tee boxes. The layout plays to 6,271 yards with a rating of 69.4 and a slope of 117 from the white tees. They offer power carts, pull carts, club rentals and a snack bar with sandwiches, snacks and cold drinks. Weekend rates (Friday-Sunday) are $22 for 9 holes, and $33 for 18.
