Meet Nicky Krost
Having graduated from Ephrata High School in 2005, Nicky Krost grew up in the agricultural hub of the Columbia Basin. With the support of her family and the abundance of fresh, local ingredients, she began developing her appreciation for delicious food. In preparing special meals with her mother and Uncle John, Nicky realized she could express her love and devotion for her family through cooking. Immediately after graduation, she attended the Art Institute of Seattle.
While finishing her Culinary Arts Degree, Nicky interned at Seattle’s renowned Il Fornaio. Il Fornaio is where she first encountered what soon became the other two loves of her life: her husband and fellow chef, Tyler Krost, and exquisite wines. In her pursuit of career advancement, Mrs. Krost took on a supervisory position at the Grand Hyatt. As Nicky’s career path continued to grow, life also took her on another new adventure, as she and her husband welcomed their son into the world. Shortly after, a fortuitous opportunity arose at the Cave B Estate Winery and Resort. For the next three years, the husband and wife chef duo operated a kitchen focused around farm-to-table food pairings to accompany the Cave B Estate vintages.
Mrs. Krost spent many mornings strolling through the vineyard and admiring the Winerys process from start to finish. Nicky’s appreciation for and knowledge of the beauty and complexity of wine steadily deepened. Then, one day, another serendipitous opportunity presented itself in the Methow Valley. After a brief visit, Mr. and Mrs. Krost fell in love with the beauty of the outdoors, the people, and of course, the kitchen and wine cellar at Sun Mountain Lodge. Blending her passion for the culinary arts, wine, and people, Nicky forged a new path forward, which allows her to share her knowledge and passion for wine and food, with all our guests, as the Sun Mountain Lodge Wine Steward.
“My love for food and wine is due to the social aspect of sharing the experience with my family and friends.”
